    Accusing Santorum of “questionable personal, political and charitable activities,” the Casey camp plans to highlight a different issue each day. Monday’s release focuses on the spending practices of Santorum’s leadership PAC, which has charged expenses to grocery stores, coffee shops and an upscale hardware store.

    The Santorum campaign has defended the charges as necessary and appropriate expenses. Spokeswoman Virginia Davis also described Daily News reporter Will Bunch, who wrote the articles that appeared in the newspaper and the left-leaning Prospect, as a “liberal hack.”

    But Santorum may be shielded from one potentially troublesome issue from the recent critical news coverage. The Daily News and the Prospect reported that he received a mortgage from an institution that usually caters to affluent clients and that has contributed money to his PAC and campaigns. However, Casey recently disclosed that board members of the bank who supplied his mortgage have donated to his campaign as well.
