Where Does Casey Stand on Alito?

For those of you who don't know, just a quick introductary note, my name is Mark Harris. I run the blog over at SaveTheGOP.com and I founded Students for Toomey. Anyway...

What I really wanted to point out is how bad a shape Casey is in on the Alito nomination. If he comes out against it then it will expose him for the shame he is on the life issue (his dad is rolling in the grave), while if he comes out for it then he will be cut off from the liberal pro-abort money. What his campaign will try to do over the next few days is hem, haw, and avoid the issue. We must keep up the pressure and demand to know where he stands on the issue.

Do something today to get the word out, contact the Casey campaign below and demand to know where Casey stands on Alito.

Why Rick

It is April 27th 2004. Midnight. I have just watched Pat Toomey concede defeat to Snarlin Arlen Specter. I am demoralized. That was a race we had in reach yet we came up just short.
As I was watching the coverage on PCN I remember one of the commentators said that PA was not ready for Conservatism. He said that PA wasn't the same PA that had elected and re-elected Rick Santorum. That the conservative movement was done in PA if Rick Santorum loses in 2006.

As I listened to this I looked around at my friends who had spent the day standing outside cold and snowy precincts all over Erie County. I said to them that we couldn't give up. That we needed to work for George W Bush in 2004 and gear up for Rick Santorum's re-election.

We have geared up and we are ready. We've seen how Harry Reid and company are beholden to the Moveon.org and Daily Kos types. They are not the ones I want running the US Senate. Bobby Casey's election would put them that much closer to being able to control the Senate. We must not let that happen.

In Rick Santorum we have a leader in the Pro-Life movement who has stood up and fought the hard fights from Partial birth abortion to the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. Folks, anyone who can stand up to Barbara Boxer and live to tell about it deserves our respect. Rick was a leader in getting President Bush's tax cuts through the Senate, which has lead to robust growth.
He has been a visionary reaching out to groups who are not normally associated with the GOP through his innovative poverty reform proposals, though maybe not the best reforms they allow the GOP to have a debate in this forum with the social engineering policies of the Democrats.

This is why we must fight hard for Rick.
Stand a post, we are going to war!

Casey vs. Casey???

Its going to be interesting to see who Bobby Casey decides to support, the Democratic leaders who brought him to the dance or his late Father.

With the pick of Judge Samuel Alito to replace Sandra Day O'Connor, the Democratic leaders of the Senate, namely Chuck Schumer the chairman of the DSCC, will be ripping apart the dissenting opinion that he gave in support of that law. A law which just so happens to be signed by the late Governor Robert Casey.

So who's hand will Bobby Casey bite the one who feeds him or the one who raised him?

Bob Casey Speaks

... and says?
"What the other guy (Santorum) has done is push his own narrow ideology over the everyday concerns of Pennsylvanians. I intend to focus on issues important to Pennsylvanians ... not promote an ideology ... fueled by arrogance, and political partisanship," Casey said.

...
Among his first priorities, Casey said, will be curbing the rising cost of health care. He said staggering increases in health care are stifling business development statewide and throughout the country.

Staggering increases in health care costs can be solved how? Staggering increases in federal health care spending? or staggering reform to our tort system?

Staggering costs are also stifling our economy.

Right.
He also complained that the Republican administration has turned "record surpluses" under the Clinton administration into deficits.

I agree with that. Given that Senator Santorum was proud of the bacon that returned from the highway bill. Leadership and seniority have the privileges, I suppose.

That being said, the Democrats that voted against the budget didn't vote against it because it was too big. Democrats aren't exactly the party of fiscal responsibility either.

Discussing Katrina relief he adds...
"Here's hundreds of thousands of our own people ... helpless, abandoned by their own federal government, and we hear nothing from our senator. Rick Santorum had a chance to say something, but the only thing he bothered to say is maybe there should be tougher penalties for those who choose to ride out the storms," Casey said.

What did Treasurer Casey do or say about hurricane relief recently?
He had his hand out.

Blaming the federal government for a colossal ineptitude by the local governments isn't exactly fair. Two additional hurricanes have hit the southeast. Rita came up the Texas-Louisana border and Hurricane Wilma cut right across Florida last week.

Disasters? For sure.
Debacle? Not exactly.

Alito Supreme Court Nomination Raises Questions For Casey

President Bush's Supreme Court nomination of Federal Judge Samuel Alito raises a few interesting questions for Senate-hopeful Bob Casey:

Does Bob Casey agree with Chuck Schumer's position on Samuel Alito?

Does he think Alito’s decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey was correct?

Never say never

Eighteen months ago--right about the time that Pat Toomey lost his bid for the US Senate--no one ever would have convinced me that I'd be supporting Rick Santorum for his reelection to the Senate. No one ever would have convinced me that I'd support George Bush, either, but I did. I did it because he was the best candidate running. Rick Santorum is the same way. Rick is very very very far away from perfect, but he is much much much better than Bobby Casey. So Rick gets my vote.

Over the next 12 months, I am certain that Rick Santorum will do things that make me want to throttle him. I won't like it, but I will continue to support him. I know people reading this blog will label me both a right-wing nutcake and a sell-out, and that's fine. On November 7, 2006, I will punch my card for Rick Santorum, and I'm going to feel good about it. Hopefully over the next year, I can convince Santorumblog readers to do the same thing.

Carlisle Sentinel: Santorum Is Prepared For Tough Fight. Will Casey Campaign On Raising Our Taxes?

The Carlisle Sentinel has a new story mentioning that Senator Rick Santorum is ready for his 2006 race against State Treasurer Bob Casey. The paper quotes Rick at a local GOP dinner making an interesting point: Will Bob Casey campaign on raising our taxes? Santorum seems to think so:
"He says he wants to raise taxes," Santorum said Wednesday. "I know he's
told us he's some sort of new Democrat, but that doesn't sound like a new
Democrat to me. He says he wants to increase taxes on the wealthy and we know
what he means by 'the wealthy' - everybody who pays taxes."

Re: Who is Bob Casey?

Josh, you ask, "Who is Bob Casey?"

Looking at the last few months of media coverage, it's "I am Bob Casey, my dad was governor a few years ago. You may remember him."

Has anyone seen an article about the Treasurer that doesn't say, "Son of a popular Democrat Governor" or something similar?

As for his stand on issues, it's "Bob Casey for Senate."

He's pro-life. Ok....

......does that mean he would vote for a Supreme Court nominee who is known to be pro-life? Would he vote against an Emily's List or NARAL endorsed candidate?

He was against CAFTA I believe. Like nearly all Democrats.

Against Social Security reform, and wants to continue Medicare expansion.

Looking at his Issues page, he takes generally safe positions that nearly any candidate would take.
He's a fiscal watchdog. Stood up against nursing home abuse. Better quality publicly funded childcare and against sex-offenders. All tremendously brave positions to take.

Save for the publicly funded childcare, none of those issues on his page show any courage. As if Rick Santorum is for abusing seniors or pro-sex offender. As much as Democrats would and do demonize Mr Santorum, no one is for any of that.

His strategy is to wait for Senator Santorum to kill himself by being a politician, doing and saying the things that Senators would do.... that and writing a book. Hoping for a Trent Lott style mis-step.

Beyond the pro-life stand, he sounds a lot like all other Democrats.

Santorum: Better than Most

I'm just dropping a test post here. In doing so, I'm letting you know that Santorum is better than most candidates. Sure, he could be better, but be honest with yourself - what politician is perfect?

Do you really think Casey will be an independent voice? He'll be whipped in line by Reid and Kennedy. Sounds like a real plus for PA. Do you really want MoveOn running our state...and possibly the senate?

Don't stomp your feet and whine if you don't like something about Santorum. Work to fix the party and the candidate from within.

That is all.
