Rick on Social Security, Why We Need Him

I just wanted to write real quickly about why we really need Rick Santorum in the Senate to fight for whats right on Social Security reform.

I worked extensively on the issue this summer for Americans for Prosperity and Students for Saving Social Security. One of the few constant advocates we had was Rick Santorum, even though he may have had the most to lose. Rick has been a constant supporter of the types of market based reforms that are key to the success of the younger generations.

Some were critical of his recent legislation to make benefits guaranteed, but this is first of all a conservative position and second of all a great move that will help ease the way to true reform. On the first point, the case is easy. If you are going to pay the government for something and then have it disappear later shouldn't you have some recourse. We can argue til we're blue in the face about whether they should take the money to begin with or not, but the fact is they are taking the money now, so it should absoultely be guaranteed. Next, if the benefits are guaranteed then the single biggest attack on Personal Accounts will fall away and then we can make real reforms.

On Social Security the answer is clear, we need Rick Santorum.
